Duration of the project: 1.8.2015 – 31.3.2018

Description and objectives of the project:

Visit Arctic Europe is a project fund by Interreg Nord program, public sector and participating companies.

Interreg V A Nord is a EU-program supporting cross-border cooperation in order to strengthen the economic and social development. Areas included in the program are north Norway, north Finland, north Sweden and Sápmi (which spreads over all three countries).

The aim of the Visit Arctic Europe project is the development of northern Scandinavia area into a cross-border, high-quality tourist area, which is an internationally competitive and well-known Arctic tourist destination.

The project will be heavily focused on tourism marketing, for support of which the networking and co-operation of the tourism operators in the area with international tour operators will be fortified.

The joint product development will ensure high-quality cross-border travel packages that meet expectations of demanding international travelers in future. The project will get in to the improvement of accessibility from the tourism industry perspective. The goal is that possible border obstacles and intra-regional traffic with its bottlenecks will be diminished in co-operation with other actors. Northern Scandinavia will be marketed as a single region in existing and new target markets, as well as by common marketing means addressed to companies or directly consumers.

The result of the project will be an internationally renowned high standard single Visit Arctic Europe tourist area. The objective is that the region's tourism volume will increase, profitability and turnover of SMEs will grow, as well as international expertise will be further strengthened. The objective is also that in the future the Visit Arctic Europe operating area will be easily accessible and travelling in the area will be easy for tourists.

There are altogether 93 companies in VAE project from all three countries.

Visit Arctic Europe project aims to create up to 100 000 sleepovers in the northern region.
